The Machen/Prince Trio returns to JMI for the third time, with a fresh set of eclectic jazz arrangements and originals. Following pianist Joseph Machen’s recent New York musical pilgrimage, the trio has been working hard on exciting new repertoire, and pushing their musicianship to the next level. Throughout the night you can expect to be transported from the musical soundscapes of New York to Brazil, and back to New Orleans. This trio does it all, and can’t wait to share the music they love from master musicians such as Bud Powell, Antônio Carlos Jobim, James Booker, Fats Waller and many more.
Brothers Joseph and Dominic Machen, on piano and drums respectively, along with Bede Prince on bass, form a trio that has been playing together for over six years. Over this period, they have crafted a tight group sound and developed a deep appreciation for wide-ranging repertoire (as well as a sharp ear for each-other’s tricks). The trio has a residency at Miss Demeanour Laneway Bar in Brisbane City, where they host a high-level jazz jam on Sunday nights. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, prepare for some surprises and an evening filled with never-before heard improvised music.

Tickets are being sold through Humanitix. Purchase limited seated tickets here. Due to JMI Live being an intimate space, we have a maximum number of guests allowed in the venue. We highly recommend it is best to get in early before tickets sell out.

Ticket Refund Policy
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms and are unable to attend after having purchased a ticket, please contact the JMI office (07 3216 1110 or email play@jazz.qld.edu.au) as soon as possible during business hours (10AM-4PM) to let us know you won’t be able to attend. A full refund will be given if we are contacted prior to a performance. Refunds will not be processed if we are contacted after the gig.
