Ashley Hutton is a Brisbane-based saxophonist, composer, and contemporary session musician working across jazz and modern commercial music. He has performed and recorded with BARKADA (VIC), Dr. Jeff Usher, Joshua Breakstone (JP/NYC), Rowan Pattinson (VIC), THNDO (VIC), and is slated to support five-time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten on his 2026 Australian tour. As a bandleader, Ashley directs the Primetime Sextet, the Ashley Hutton Quartet, and his Trio, and is an active presence in Brisbane’s improvised music scene.
In 2024, he received the Simon Hatton Saxophone Bursary from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, supporting study in Toronto and New York City. In 2025, he founded Found Sound, a bi-weekly Brisbane concert series and jam session, and works as an instrumental music educator and guest clinician. From April to July of 2026, he will be attending the Tribeca Jazz Institute in NYC.
Alongside his jazz work, Ashley is an in-demand session musician. His credits include touring the UK and Ireland with JUNO (QLD) in support of Drax Project (NZ), performing with LEISURE (NZ), and recording with ARIA Award–winning producer Konstantin Kersting on projects including Kita Alexander’s All Night and Keli Holiday’s ARIA #1 single Dancing2. He has also performed with Grammy-nominated artist Stonebwoy (Ghana), supported Lawrence (USA), and contributed horn arrangement and performance to JUNO’s 2025 QMA-winning single I’m the Man.

Tickets are being sold through Humanitix. Purchase limited seated tickets here. Due to JMI Live being an intimate space, we have a maximum number of guests allowed in the venue. We highly recommend it is best to get in early before tickets sell out.

Ticket Refund Policy
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms and are unable to attend after having purchased a ticket, please contact the JMI office (07 3216 1110 or email play@jazz.qld.edu.au) as soon as possible during business hours (10AM-4PM) to let us know you won’t be able to attend. A full refund will be given if we are contacted prior to a performance. Refunds will not be processed if we are contacted after the gig.
