About Essentially Ellington Down Under
Essentially Ellington Down Under is a high school jazz band festival and professional development workshop series for high school music students and teachers delivered by the JMI Foundation and Jazz at Lincoln Center based in New York City.
This program has been running since 2014 and has so far reached over 5,000 high school students and nearly 700 teachers throughout Australia.
In 2025, JMI Foundation will present the Essentially Ellington Down Under Festival in Melbourne and Brisbane. The festival will provide an opportunity for high school bands and music teachers to directly interact with, and learn from two of the finest jazz educators and performers in the world, Vincent Gardner (lead trombonist of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra), and Jerome Jennings (Emmy award winning composer and drummer).
