Hilary Geddes Quartet felt like being thrown into a pool and submerged in some aquatic bliss.” – Limelight
Hilary Geddes is an award-winning guitarist, composer and improviser whose work is shaping the sound of contemporary jazz in Australia. Based in Eora/Sydney on Gadigal Land, she leads the critically acclaimed Hilary Geddes Quartet, an ensemble celebrated for its distinctive blend of modern jazz, indie and experimental influences, underpinned by group improvisation.
Geddes was named the 2021 Freedman Jazz Fellow, received an ABC Jazz Scholarship, and won the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award in 2019, leading to the release of her debut album Parkside (ABC Jazz). The recording received national acclaim and an AIR Award nomination for Best Jazz Album, firmly establishing the quartet on the Australian jazz circuit.
The Hilary Geddes Quartet has enjoyed significant national success, performing at major festivals and venues including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Volume Festival, and supported Marcus Miller at his sold-out City Recital Hall concert — a milestone that introduced the group to wider international audiences. The quartet is recognised for its compelling live performances, marked by dynamic interplay, textural nuance and emotional depth.
The Redleaf tour showcases Geddes’ evolving compositional voice alongside the stellar Matt Harris (piano), Max Alduca (double bass) and Alex Inman-Hislop (drums).
