Thinking about studying music at a higher education level? Come and experience what life at JMI is really like at our upcoming Open Day on Sunday 5 July, from 11am-2pm.
Whether you’re an aspiring performer, songwriter, educator, or simply passionate about jazz, our Open Day is designed to give you a genuine insight into studying at one of Australia’s leading music institutions.
The day kicks off with registration from 11am, giving you the chance to explore the campus, meet staff and students, and settle into the JMI community atmosphere before the official welcome session begins at 11:30am.
From 12pm, hear directly from the people who know JMI best during our Student Panel and Q&A. Current students will share their experiences of studying jazz at a higher education level, what day-to-day life at JMI looks like, and how the program has helped shape their artistic and professional goals. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about study load, performance opportunities, pathways into the industry, student life, and more.
At 12:30pm, dive into an Introduction to Improvisation and Course Information Session – a great opportunity to experience JMI’s practical and collaborative learning environment firsthand. You’ll learn more about our courses, teaching approach, and what makes studying at JMI unique within Australia’s music education landscape.
From 1pm, the afternoon becomes even more social with a free BBQ and open jam session featuring current students and alumni. This is your chance to connect with the wider JMI community, hear live music, and even jump in and jam. Whether you’re an instrumentalist or vocalist – the jam session is all about creativity, collaboration, and experiencing the supportive culture that defines JMI.
