JMI High School programs

JMI have some exciting new programs engaging with highschool students to give students an opportunity to learn jazz at Australia’s leading jazz institution. If you’re looking to learn how to improvise, improve your musicianship and ready yourself for tertiary music studies, JMI have a number of programs for you!

JMI Youth Program

JMI’s Youth Program is specifically designed for current high school students (ages 11 to 18) on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm. The program is delivered by JMI’s esteemed faculty and is a great way for young musicians to continue to develop their musicianship. Read more

Essentially Ellington

JMI, in partnership with American jazz institution Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC), will be delivering the acclaimed Essentially Ellington program out to highschool big bands in Australia. Essentially Ellington is a JALC initiative that promotes the performance of repertoire by Duke Ellington. Schools are able to access free scores of the Duke Ellington repertoire and access free videos, tutorials and other resources. Read more

JMI is offering a range of workshops for high schools with our esteemed faculty and students. If you’re looking to provide your school students with some enriching musical experiences and help to deepen their knowledge and understanding of their instrument and music in general, JMI has the workshop for you. Projects for all ages

JMI is always looking to engage with the wider community to help spread awareness of jazz music and to provide educational and performance opportunities for all ages and abilities. Below is an outline of some of the events run by JMI to meet our mission.

JMI Night Classes

JMI runs 8-week short courses in jazz improvisation for musicians of all abilities on Wednesday nights from 6pm to 8pm. These classes are perfect for those who are unable to study a full-time music course and would like to learn about jazz theory and performance. Read more

JMI Summer Jazz Clinics

JMI runs jazz clinics for students of all ages and abilities who are looking to learn how to improvise, perform in small ensembles and be taught by some of Australia’s leading jazz educators in an intensive 4-day clinic. Read more

JMI Private Lessons

JMI offers private one-on-one lessons for students of all ages and abilities. Lessons can be held outside of business hours and be as frequent or infrequent as you like.  Learn from JMI’s wonderfully talented alumni in this flexible and individually-focused program. Read more
