As a Registered Training Organisation Jazz Music Institute (JMI) is qualified to deliver nationally recognised training packages for highschool students as part of their school curriculum.

JMI currently provides VET services to dozens of highschools throughout the greater Brisbane area and the response from teachers, parents and students has been overwhelmingly positive.  Classes are held here on campus at JMI every Wednesday afternoon during term.

Our courses are audited by the Department of Education & Training (DET) which administer Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. Under VET sector rules, Classroom and Instrumental Music Teachers can deliver these Certificate courses in partnership with JMI. JMI provides lesson plans, support, course materials and professional development and all assessment is carried out by JMI.

The JMI Way

We have developed an innovative approach to teaching music. Students learn to play in rock, popular/contemporary, jazz and classical styles in a multi instrumental music setting of small ensembles.   The course covers all aspects of music – reading, writing, theory/harmony, history, improvisation and memorisation skills.

Credit Points towards Queensland Certificate of Education

The course we have developed covers Certificate III – IV in Music Performance.   Credit points gained from these courses towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) are:

Certificate III Music Performance:  8 credit points
Certificate IV Music Performance:  8 credit points
