Improvisation is the creative expression of melody derived from scales, arpeggios modes and intervals, through the use of rhythmic variation.
When scales are learnt, anyone can improvise!
The tapping of creativity is available to everyone, if logical and methodical steps are taken.
Volume 1 has been designed for the beginner in jazz improvisation who may know only one or two scales. However, it has also been designed to test the more skilled improviser in all Keys. The rhythm section has an excellent groove, making it easy for you to get a feel for the jazz idiom.
“There is a Japanese visual art in which the artist is forced to be spontaneous. He must paint on a thin stretched parchment with a special brush and black water painting in such a way that an unnatural or interrupted strike will destroy the line or break through the parchment. Erasures or changes are impossible. These artists must practice a particular discipline, that allowing the idea to express itself in communication with their hands in such a direct way that deliberation cannot interfere. This conviction that direct deed is the most meaningful reflection, I believe, has prompted the evolution of the extremely severe and unique discipline of the jazz or improvising musician”
