Garton’s Rolling Monkeys – 17/10/19

Garton’s Rolling Monkeys play the music of Jelly Roll Morton and Thelonious Monk in a “New Orleans frontline meets dirty brass band” mash-up. Hectic Charleston vibes for non-stop dancing if you feel so inclined.

This group features a plethora of players from the recent resurgence of the Brisbane swing dance scene, from groups such as the Pantheon of Swing, the Rhythm Society Dance Orchestra, the Duncan Street Monarchs and more. In addition, each performer is or has been involved in countless other musical pursuits including the Abbreviations Orchestra, One Dragon Two Dragon, Good Bait Trio, Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra, Holy Rollercoasters and the Lachlan McKenzie Quartet. This incredible diversity brings vitality and constant surprises to their interpretations of Morton and Monk, two of the great composers in the jazz oeuvre.

Featuring:
Andrew Garton – clarinet
Andrew McNaughton – trumpet
Ange Gadd – trombone
Lachlan McKenzie – sousaphone
Aaron Jansz – percussion
