Hailing from the sunshine state of Queensland, Brad McCarthy studied at the Queensland Conservatorium and soon became a prominent and sought-after fixture in the Brisbane jazz scene. In 2005, he relocated to Melbourne where he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, where he also attended an honours year. Brad was based in Melbourne for 9 years, playing around the scene at such clubs as Uptown, Bennett’s Lane, Manchester Lane, Cape Lounge, and 303. In 2006, Brad was one of the few to receive a buzz grant to record an E.P of original music. Brad once again relocated back to Brisbane, where he cemented himself again in the scene as a figure in Brisbane and the surrounding coasts. Brad has played with such jazz greats as Dale Barlow, Harry Connick Jnr, Bernie McGann, James Morrison, Steve Newcomb, and Jamie Oehlers just to name a few.
Brad brings his latest group Cannon Fodder to JMI Live, which will tackle the great Cannonball Adderley Quintet songbook. Playing classic hard bop tunes from such albums as “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, “Live at San Francisco”, and “Something Else”. It promises to be a night full of hard-hitting action, with some of Brisbane’s finest on stage. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see the group live.
