Toby Wren, Andrew Shaw and John Parker perform a kind of surgery on jazz, improvising both the form and the content as they weave together and juxtapose a selection of standards into one self-referential exposition. All three are stalwarts of the Brisbane jazz scene, having been involved in the performing and teaching of jazz in Brisbane for many years, so it is a collective expertise and mastery of the jazz form that they bring to their encounter, coupled with the perspective that their long involvement in Indian classical music, original contemporary jazz, and the avant-garde brings.
Toby Wren teaches jazz guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium and has released six albums of original compositions. Andrew Shaw teaches at JMI and has performed and recorded with countless Brisbane and international acts. John Parker also teaches at the Queensland Conservatorium and performs with Trichotomy and Oxford Parker.
