/ Sophie Min & James Sherlock / – 8PM
‘Thanks for the Hands’ is Sophie Min’s first jazz duet album with the legendary guitarist James Sherlock.
Min and Sherlock collaborated at the 2017 Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival and at Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre in May 2018, opening for Andrea Keller. The music captures a delicate sense of beauty and the exciting liveliness of the two musicians.
This album features original works that strike a balance between the harmonic properties of the guitar and the piano. These works were inspired by my fellow musicians John Hoffman, Zac Hurren, and Kristin Berardi. These songs represent the emotional journey I have been on in my last few years of composing. This collection of works celebrates the idiosyncrasies of James Sherlock’s incredible guitar playing. This work would not be possible without the guiding hand of God and thus the album title ‘Thanks for the Hands’.
