Rafael Karlen Quintet – 15/11/18

Acclaimed saxophonist and composer Rafael Karlen will be joined by many of Brisbane’s finest improvising musicians for an evening of lyrical and creative original music.
Rafael is currently based in Sydney after being awarded the prestigious Prelude Residency, allowing him to be the 2018 Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composer in Residence.

The Quintet will perform Rafael’s new compositions alongside material from his critically acclaimed album Trace.

Toby Wren – guitar

Sean Foran – piano

Zac Sakrewksi – bass

Joe Marchisella- drums

Rafael Karlen – saxophone and composition

This is a collection of rhythmless, colourful interpretations in unhurried settings where peaceful interplay between sax, guitar and piano is explored with ability and sensitivity’

John McBeath’s 4 star review of Rafael’s Album Trace in the Australian
