Join the Joshua Hatcher Quartet at JMI Live on 16 August for a night of hip jazz sounds featuring the music of Clifford Brown, Cedar Walton, Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter and more! This long-running quartet features Chris Poulsen on piano, Helen Russell on bass, Nathan Goldman on drums, and Hatcher on tenor saxophone.
Joshua Hatcher’s voice on the tenor saxophone is composed of the sounds he has collected and internalised over some 20 years of playing. He was 1 of the 10 semi-finalists in the 2016 National Jazz Awards (saxophone) at Wangaratta, and 2 of his compositions from his debut album “Now and Then” (2016) were nominated as finalists in the QMusic Awards in the jazz category. His compositions and arrangements for big band have been recorded by the Enthusiastic Musicians’ Orchestra on “One for B” (2011) and “Long Way Home” (2014) and he was the 2016 Composer-in-Residence for the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra. He lectures in Music Theory and Ensemble Skills at Jazz Music Institute and directs a big band at Queensland University of Technology.
