Come and celebrate International Jazz Day with a street parade through the Queen Street Mall!
International Jazz Day is an initiative by UNESCO and the Thelonius Monk Institute held on 30th April each year to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. International Jazz Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future and impact; raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication.
Each year on April 30, this international art form is recognized for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; promoting freedom of expression; fostering gender equality; and reinforcing the role of youth in enacting social change.
This year, JMI will be running a street parade through the Queen Street Mall open to all members of the community to get involved. Whether you’re a musician or music lover, everyone is welcome to join in the festivities. We’ll be performing a selection of tradition New Orleans tunes, so all musicians are encouraged to bring along their instruments and join in. For the music lovers you can bring your dancing spirit and join in the second line!
The music charts of the tunes that we’ll be performing are available here (Concert, Bass, Eb, and Bb): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/znb2f2rtd85ol54/AAAfNMGhy5O5lAMXSB-pCt2oa?dl=0
